Nackawic duo miss cut at junior golf finals
Athletes from Nackawic missed the cut on Tuesday in the second round of the 2008 N.B. Junior Men's Golf Championships, held at the Fredericton Golf and Country Club.
A score of 166 would have gotten them in the third round, but Josh Barry (84-88-172) and Brandon Bradley (100-90-190) were eliminated.
Woodstock runners top-10 at Miramichi
Athletes from Woodstock came home with top-10 results from the 2008 Rock N Run Half-Marathon Road race, held recently in Miramichi City.
Jeremy Ritcey took third overall, in a field of 98, in the 21.1K division of the Run N.B. event with his clocking of one hour, 23 minutes (1:23).
Tim Wright placed 10th with his time of 1:30:21, while Fred Green of Florenceville ended up 62nd with a his 2:03:21.
Pro Bass tour comes to Magaguadavic
Some of the province's top anglers hit the waters of Magaguadavic Lake on Saturday for the second leg of the 2008 N.B. Pro Bass tour, held in the Harvey region.
Following are top results from the team portion of the event: 1. Andy Moran and Corey Cheney, 14.30 pounds, 2. Dave Stewart and Norm Stewart, 10.90, 3. Nathan Kent and Joe Crawford, 10.30, 4. Gary Baird and Doug Hamilton, 10.25, 5. Tony Palise and Dot Delaney, 10.05, 6. Ken Getchell and Gary Hastey, 9.40, 7. Jeff Hanley and Cody Hanley, 9.25, 8. Don Crawford and Barry Crawford, 9.20, 9. Bruce Hanley and Ron Hooper, 8.55, 10. Randy Leaman and Chris Leaman, 8.50; Lunker - Andy Moran and Corey Cheney, 3.65.

Account set up for Wayne Palin Fund
Efforts are on-going to aid a Hartland man in his family's efforts to purchase him a new wheelchair-accessible van.
A fundraising run and walk, which garnered $920, was held from Stickney to Hartland on Saturday to aid Wayne Palin, who - due to disease - is paralyzed from the waist down and has limited mobility in his upper body.
Efforts will continue over the coming weeks in aid of Palin and his efforts to lead a more active life.
Those wishing to donate to the cause may contact one of his family members for more information, or drop by the Scotiabank in Hartland and make a deposit to the Vaughn Palin In Trust For Wayne Palin fund.
In other news concerning the Wayne Palin Fund, a yard sale in aid of the cause, planned for Saturday, July 19, has been postponed until a later date as there is still a number of items to go through.
Vaughn Palin said on Tuesday "this will take a fair amount of time to organize, and we are not sure at this point when it will occur."
Co-ed softball league teams in action
Local play in the region's adult co-ed softball league will continue on several fronts this week.
On Monday, July 21 the Woodstock Legion will take on Canada Customs, while on Tuesday, July 22 the Woodstock Police will play Midwest and Valley Equipment will challenge Woodstock Rec.
On Wednesday, July 23 Valley Equipment will take on Barrett's, while on Thursday, July 24 Woodstock NBCC will take on Day and Ross.
Summer rugby camp in Woodstock
The stars of the pitch are getting ready for an upcoming skill development event.
A rugby camp will be held in Woodstock from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25 for athletes of the 11 to 14 age group, hosted by the Woodstock Recreation Department.
Sessions will be on each day from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The registration fee is $40 and includes a free practice ball and t-shirt.
Sessions will stress the sport's fundamentals and are open to new and experienced players.

Woodstock Wildmen in action Saturday
The Woodstock Wildmen RFC senior men's rugby team have been in the midst of pre-season preparations for its 2008 season.
As part of this process, the squad will host an exhibition game on Saturday, July 19 against the Saint John Irish.
Saint John, formerly known as the Canadians, are one of the Atlantic Provinces' top rep squads. Game time is 2 p.m. at the WHS pitch.
Fans of both teams are encouraged to come out in big numbers to cheer on their favourite squad at the friendly.
