Paddle Tales club launched in Nackawic

A Nackawic-based group called Paddle Tales is hoping to get more people interested in canoeing and kayaking.
"Paddle Tales is an organization affiliated with the Nackawic Recreation Department," said a recent release from the association. "We work with Randy Wilson and some of the administration is done by Marlene McCallum."
The group will encourage families to join the popular sport as recreational participants.
"Paddle Tales is a social group of paddlers from the surrounding area of Nackawic, New Brunswick, who enjoy the sport of canoeing and kayaking. There are no club dues and no elected officers. as well as no insurance coverage. (On occasion) there may be a meeting or a brief presentation on a paddling-related topic. We sincerely request that folks from Paddle Tales participate to create an organization that all can enjoy. Please, step up and organize, or assist in organizing a group paddle, or put together meeting programs or instructional sessions, or just a fun day down by the water."
The association wants its participants to practice safety at all times on the water.
"Become a safe paddler (by) being responsible for properly preparing for paddling trips," said the release. "Be prepared for the air and water temperatures, as well as other possible conditions. Get proper training; research kayaking and canoeing information; and ask questions. Bring your own kayak or canoe, your common sense, responsibility for your own safety, and your enthusiasm. Contribute your own unique skills, talents, and adventure stories to the club."
There is a website (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/paddle_tales) where people can subscribe to become a member.
This site is where people can communicate with other Paddle Tales paddlers by e-mail, to announce an organized trip, introduce themselves and interests, ask questions about canoeing and kayaking activities, as well as to provide information and links that may be of interest to other paddlers.
By using the e-mail address, paddle_tales-subscribe@yahoogroups.com, they can join the Paddle Tales Yahoo Group.
The only requirement is people must include their name and town when they sign up.
A Paddler's Information Sheet can be picked up and filled out at the Nackawic Town Office, which can helps the group know where paddlers interests are
The group's first event will be held either in late June or early July.
A Family Fun Day, which will be a family paddle, will allow participants to return to the Nackawic waterfront to enjoy games for the kids and a barbecue.
"A date will be announced on the website and in The Key (community newsletter)," said the release. "Other events in the early planning stages are a Paddle Day for Kids, which will include an instruction (course); a Poker Run; and a regular day or evening (excursion) where paddlers can enjoy a short paddle."
