Swim for Missions fundraiser

Rev. Bev Brazier, Bonnie Holcomb join together to swim Skiff Lake Aug. 17
It'll be an athletic event with a spiritual cause.
Two members of the United Church's pastoral charge in the Debec-Canterbury-McKenzie Corner region will join together on Sunday, Aug. 17 to swim Skiff Lake as part of a fundraiser for those in need.
Rev. Bev Brazier, who heads the United Church's congregations in the region, and Bonnie Holcomb, the organist at St. Trinity United in Debec, will be taking to the waters to help raise money for the churches' mission fund.
Cash towards the fundraiser will go to on-going efforts by United Church members on behalf of those in need in Third World and developing countries.
"I have swum the lake before as part of a previous fundraiser, but this will mark Bonnie's first time," said Rev. Brazier. "We're asking for donations, or better yet for people to sponsor us. People who would like to aid the cause can phone us at the church at 279-2232 or e-mail me at bbrazier@nbnet.nb.ca."
The swim will take place during the afternoon, starting from the shore at 139 LaCoote Drive.
Those wishing to attend in person may get there by heading toward Skiff Lake and by turning left at the Skiff Lake Canteen.
"People are invited to come, and cheer us on from the shore," added Rev. Brazier.
