Rec, sports events in Woodstock

Several events are scheduled for the coming weeks to be hosted by the Woodstock Recreation Department or will be held at the Carleton Civic Centre.

On July 1, a Kids of Steel Triathlon for children ages 5 to 15 will be held in Woodstock.

Volunteers are still needed for this annual sporting event.

The Woodstock Rec Department's annual Fun Park program starts June 23 and will go until Aug. 29.

Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome.

A summer swim team will be offered at the CCC from June 23 to Aug. 29.

Youth will learn, and practice, stroke techniques.

They will also be given a chance to compete in the annual Western Valley Outdoor Swim Meet circuit and to have an opportunity to join the Western Valley swim team in August.

The annual River Valley Hockey School will be held over two weeks (June 30 to July 4 and July 7 to 11) at the CCC.

The CCC's second annual Slush Cup is set for July 4 to 6 and will be hosted by the Woodstock Recreation Department.

This event will be open to gentlemen's squads from throughout the region.

In other youth sports news, players can still sign up for the Woodstock Minor Baseball group's 2008 season.

Next local event for archers from the region is set for May 25 as a 3-D shoot will be held in the town.

The annual Woodstock Hoops Camp, organized by John MacKay, is still looking for up-and-coming basketball players.

Deadline to register is May 31.
