It's the annual event which brings together some of the region's, and Canada's and the United States', top basketball prospects.

The 2008 Potato Valley Basketball Camp will be held July 7 to 11 in Bristol at Carleton North High School.

The Potato Valley Basketball Camp has been ‘on the go' since 1993.

Four main gyms will be available for campers.

"Coaches at the event will involve an exciting blend of American and Canadian coaches under the Basketball Camps International banner," says event organizer Iain Dunlop. "We will have coaches who have won state and provincial championships, coaches who have coached at the NCAA level and coaches that have competed at the Canadian National Championship level. We also have several up and coming coaches who are being recognized by their peers."

Dunlop says the event is designed with all athletes in mind.

"Our camp is committed to providing an affordable and creative atmosphere that promotes better skills on the court , increases respectful competition and has a positive and social and learning experience," Dunlop says.

Day sessions will be held for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, while evening sessions will be for boys and girls of the 15 to 18 division.

The evening sessions will include varsity boys in international play with players from Maine.

"Nine varsity coaches from Maine and New Brunswick will lead the players through fundamentals stressed sessions in all aspects of the game," Dunlop says. "The camp is meant to be hard work , fun orientated with team and respect values paramount. Coaches Casey, Shaw, Daye, Turnbull, Ryan, Lawrence and other varsity coaches pursue basketball immersion with great teaching abilities.

Players in the day camp are grouped on the first day according to ability level as they are challenged to improve . Three to four major groupings of players according to age and ability are situated in one of three basketball courts. The evening varsity boys have an exciting feature. After skills development sessions early in the evening, they will play ‘international' games. Players from Presque isle High one night, Houlton on the second night, Caribou on the third day and Fort Fairfield on a fourth night. Day campers will receive a camp 2008 basketball shirt, an individual action photo, a group photo, possible awards, and a camp-ending barbecue (which is) usually attended by many parents."

Last year, campers from Carleton, Victoria and York counties in N.B., Aroostock county in Maine , plus players from Ontario, British Columbia and southern Maine participated.

"Many new friends in basketball were made, and e-mails exchanges were the rage," Dunlop added.
