
Western Valley to host provincial championships


Junior hockey will take centre stage this weekend as the Western Valley Panthers host the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League provincial tournament in Hartland and Woodstock.
Coached by Nick Munro of Florenceville the team includes players who have made a significant mark on high school and junior teams in the region, and now moved on to the NBJHL. While only in their second year of league play, the panthers posted a solid record of 12 wins, 11 loses and four ties and made a significant mark on the league, finishing fourth overall in league standings.
Beginning on Friday six NBJHL teams will playoff in Harland and Woodstock to determine who will represent the league in the Atlantic championships held on Prince Edward Island later this spring.
Playing off for that right will be teams from Richibucto, Hampton, Fredericton, Grand Lake, Shediac/Cap Pele and the host Panthers.
Fans are encouraged to take part in the tournament by coming out to cheer on the hometown squad as they make their bid for a provincial title.
