
Bantam hockey tourney set for Woodstock Dec. 4 to 7 at CCC

Competitive, Competitive C finals on Sunday afternoon

One of the most anticipated minor hockey tournaments in the Western Valley region on the 2008-09 season will hit the ice this coming weekend in Woodstock and Hartland.
The Woodstock Minor Hockey Association's annual bantam invitational will be held from Thursday, Dec. 4 to Friday, Dec. 7 at the Carleton Civic Centre in the town and the Hartland Community Arena.
The event will feature two categories; Competitive C and Competitive.
In the Competitive C event, eight teams will be going for honours.
Squads in Division I will include Woodstock Coast Tires, Grand Lake, the Fredericton Kings and Moncton.
Teams in Division 2 will feature Woodstock E. Cummings, the FYJA Canadiens, Oromocto, and Fundy.
Play in the category kicks off on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. game between the Canadians and E. Cummings at the CCC, to be followed at 6:45 p.m. by Woodstock Coast Tires' opener against the Fredericton Kings.
In the Competitive category, eight squads will be going for the banner.
In Division A, Woodstock K of C, Fredericton, Houlton, and Carleton will hit the ice, while Division B will feature the York Coyotes, Edmundston, KVMHA, and Campbellton.
Woodstock K of C will kick off its tournament on Thursday in an 8 p.m. start at the CCC versus Houlton.
Preliminary play at the invitational continues on Friday, starting at 12:15 p.m.
Round robin action continues on Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
The event's playoffs kick off at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
The Competitive C cross-over semi-finals, between the #1 and #2 seeds from each division, go at 9 a.m. at the HCA and the CCC.
The Competitive semi-final cross-overs will follow at 10:30 a.m. at both rinks.
The event's golden games are set for noon (Competitive C) and 1:30 p.m. (Competitive).
Local fans are encouraged to attend to cheer on the talented youngsters who will skate at the four day event.
