Over the past eight months Woodstock has welcomed three different Katimavik groups.

On Aug. 22, the eight Katimavik participants, who have spent the past three months volunteering and experiencing the beauty and culture of New Brunswick, packed up for the last time and said goodbye to their home here in Woodstock.

Each participant will carry memories of their time in Woodstock and the people they have met.

Since 2005, Katimavik participants have generously given their time to the Town of Woodstock, volunteering in many non-profit work placements. Sanctuary House, Woodstock First Nation Child Development Centre, Carleton Manor, Carleton Civic Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters, L.P. Fisher Public Library, W.I. Home, Meduxnekeag River Association, and Farm Market hosted the participants.

Katimavik extends a sincere thank you to all of the community partners who helped make this program possible.

Katimavik is also grateful to countless others, including all billets, who have contributed to the success of the program.

About Katimavik

Katimavik offers youth between the ages of 17 and 21 an exciting nine-month journey to self-discovery in three different regions in Canada.

The program is based on the concept of service learning, which integrates both personal and professional development through volunteer work in community projects.

In addition to working a minimum of 35 hours a week in community projects, participants benefit from a learning program that focuses on developing leadership skills, official languages proficiency, a healthy lifestyle, cultural discovery and protection of the environment. Each Katimavik participant contributes an average of 900 hours of community work to partner organizations.

Since 1977, more then 27,000 young Canadians have participated in the Katimavik program, developing their sense of civic responsibility and gaining self-confidence.

Katimavik’s goal is to form responsible citizens who will contribute significantly to Canada’s society.

Doing. Learning. Building a nation… one community at a time.
