Mental health online

New Brunswickers have the opportunity to comment on the future of mental-health services by using an online questionnaire launched last week by Judge Michael McKee.

In May, Health Minister Michael Murphy named McKee to chair the task force. McKee expects to deliver a report, including recommendations, to Murphy by February 2009.

The development of a mental-health strategy is a key initiative in the provincial health plan unveiled by Murphy in April.

The web-based questionnaire will supplement the kitchen table discussions that McKee is having with stakeholders representing mental-health professionals, consumer organizations, families and other interested parties.

The online questionnaire may be viewed at a website established by the Department of Health.

McKee also released an issues and options discussion paper to encourage people to bring forward their ideas.

In addition, a series of regional sessions are being scheduled for November to provide individuals and groups with an opportunity to make presentations to the task force in their area. Individuals and groups can indicate their interest in participating by registering at stratmh.sm@gnb.ca.
