Buttermilk Creek Fall Festival packed full of family fun

The community of Florenceville- Bristol will celebrate its third annual Buttermilk Creek Fall Festival on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20.

The full weekend of entertainment kicks off Friday with the inaugural Florenceville- Bristol Fall Pageant – open to girls six to 11 – at the Carleton North High School Theatre at 7 p.m.

Admission will be $3 per person, with free tickets for children under six years of age. The evening will include a mystery door prize drawing and tickets will be available on a gift basket.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, festival organizers have schedule a full day of family entertainment at the Northern Carleton Civic Centre and grounds.

Begin the day with a hearty Harvest Breakfast at 8 a.m., with payment by donation, then browse the farm market, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join in on the family farm market scavenger hunt to win prizes. Lists will be made available at the entrance to the market.

Enjoy a puppet show at 10 a.m.; story telling at 10:30 a.m.; and potato t-shirt printing at 11 a.m.

A hayride will carry visitors from the civic centre parking lot to Hunter Bros.

Farm Market to take in a tour of the Corn Maze and enjoy all the activities Hunter Bros. Farm Market offers. Visitors can then climb back on for a ride back to the Civic Centre.

Enjoy the outdoor food market from noon to 2 p.m., which will include musical entertainment between noon and 1 p.m.

Area cooks can test their skills by entering their wares in the homemade pie and brownie contest from 11 a.m.

to 1 p.m. The top submission will be judged the “Yummiest Dessert of the Buttermilk Creek Fall Festival”. To enter call Nancy Smith at 392-6021.

The Scarecrow Auction will start at 1 p.m., which will see the highest bidder take home a uniquely crafted Scarecrow for their yard.

Throughout the day, Potato World will be hosting specials. Information will be posted at the festival.

From 2 to 4 p.m., the festival will feature the “Family Fun Afternoon” in the park. Family members can participate in traditional picnic-style games such as the great potato throw, potato toss, family potato sack races, potato flipper relay, the great family scarecrow dress and dash, family horseshoe challenge, the potato-peeling contest, picture corner and face painting.

Thefunandentertainmentcontinues into the evening with the Harvest Moon Movie, featuring Charlotte’s Web, in the park, beginning at 8 p.m. Pack up your pj’s,pillow,blanketandachairandsettle in for a “Cool” movie the whole family will enjoy. Payment is by donation of a food item for the local Food Bank.

Popcorn, hot chocolate and other concessions will be available to purchase.
