Team #8 second at Enduro race
The local Team #8 racing squad hit the podium on Friday in the Enduro 200 event at Speedway 660 in Geary, N.B.
The duo of Benji Ruff and Dale Hatheway had a strong night, but they couldn't stop veteran driver Steve Seveck, in his trusty #44, who took home his first series win of the 2008 season.
Seveck fought it out for many laps against Team 8, but finally crossed the finish line and took home the victory.
In the third and four position, Rheal Kenny, in his, #72 along with Bud Vallis in the 34c drove side-by-side for many laps, gaining only inches on one another at a time, with Kenny eventually making the podium.
Junior golf finals in Woodstock next week
The Woodstock Golf and Curling Club's 2008 Junior Club Championships are set for Aug. 26 and 27.
The event will feature some of the region's top young duffers. The finals will be followed on Aug. 29 by the annual Woodstock Junior A Slammers' hockey team's scramble.

NBSFA Fall Classic Aug. 30, 31
Some of the province's top anglers will be in Woodstock on the Labour Day weekend for the New Brunswick Sportfishing Association's 2008 Mercury Mactaquac Fall Classic as part of its Unlimited Series.
The championships will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Entry fee is $200 Canadian, with a cash payout pro-rated at the 50-boat entry point, with a launch fee of $14.
The finals are co-sponsored by the Town of Woodstock.
Waters will be off-limits at sunset for participants and non-participants on the Sunday (Aug. 24) immediately prior to the tournament, as "fishing by all NBSFA members must cease on that body of water, whether competing in the event or not. Members may use the body of water for other recreational activities, including boating, water-skiing, and other sports, from the Monday to Friday prior to finals. The pre-registration cut-off for this event is Aug. 24."

Local softball leagues in action
The region's two softball leagues will be in action this week.
In the local co-ed association, on Tuesday, Aug. 19 Woodstock Rec will take on Day and Ross while the Woodstock Legion will face Midwest in Hartland. On Wednesday, Aug. 20 Canada Customs will play Barrett.
On Thursday, Aug. 21 the Woodstock Police will square off against Valley Equipment.
In the Northern Carleton Men's Softball League, on Aug. 19 Glassville will take on the Monquarters, while on Aug. 20 The Buddies will face Carleton Mutual in Bristol and the Monquarters will play Exit Realty in Hartland.
On Aug. 21, Carleton Mutual will place the Schooners while M and A will hit the pitch against The Buddies.
The loop's year-end tournament will go from Wednesday, Aug. 27 to Sunday, Aug. 31 in Hartland.
N.B. Pro Bass tour on Mactaquac Sept. 6
The 2008 N.B. Pro Bass tour will include an event set for Sept. 6 on the Mactaquac.
This one-day event has a $200 tournament entry fee and an $8 launch fee. Those wishing more information may go on-line at www.nbprobass.ca.
Co-ed volleyball in Woodstock Aug. 30, 31
A co-ed volleyball tournament is set for Woodstock on the Labour Day weekend.
The event, set for Aug. 30 and 31, will be held at the Woodstock Farm Market.
The finals are open to players 18-and-over and will include rec and competitive divisions.
