
WHS Thunder wins in Dalhousie

The Woodstock High School Thunder varsity AAA boys basketball team won the Dalhousie Regional High School Christmas Classic on the Dec. 6 weekend..
The Thunder finished with a 5-0 record and defeated Dalhousie in the final 60-41.
A full re-cap of Woodstock's victory at the event will be published in Friday's edition of the Bugle-Observer.
Next home game for WHS will be Wednesday, Dec. 10 against Oromocto. Start time is 7 p.m.
The squad's annual Thunder Valley Classic will be hosted by WHS from Dec. 27 to 29.
Novice tourney at NCCC
The 2008 Carleton Novice Timbits Tournament will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Northern Carleton Civic Centre in Florenceville-Bristol.
This annual event will be hosted by the Carleton Minor Hockey Association.
The invitational will feature eight teams, including Carleton I, the Carleton Thunder Cats, the Carleton Canadiens, the Woodstock Penguins, the Woodstock Polar Bears, Houlton (Maine), Tobique Valley, and Southern Victoria II.
Each squad will play two games under novice rules.
Refreshments will be provided to each team after each game, but lunch is not provided.
The rink canteen is providing a lunch special for the players, as each skater will receive a canteen coupon to help with the cost. Prizes for each player will be provided by the organizers.

Following is the event's schedule: 9:30 a.m.: Carleton 1 vs. Woodstock Penguins; 10:30 a.m.: Carleton Thunder Cats vs. Tobique Valley; 11:45 a.m.: Carleton Canadians vs. Woodstock Penguins; 12:45 p.m.: Tobique Valley vs. Southern Victoria 2; 2 p.m.: Woodstock Polar Bears vs. Carleton 1; 3 p.m.: Houlton vs. Carleton Thunder Cats; 4:15 p.m.: Southern Victoria 2 vs. Carleton Canadians; 5:15 p.m.: Woodstock Polar Bears vs. Houlton.
CMHA tournaments planned
The Carleton Minor Hockey Association will host a series of tournaments over the coming weeks at the Northern Carleton Civic Centre in Florenceville-Bristol and the Hartland Community Arena.
Its one-day novice tourney is planned for Saturday, Dec. 13 at the NCCC, while the the CMHA's annual pee wee competitive event will go from Dec. 18 to 21,.
The CMHA's 2008 atom competitive tournament is also set for Dec. 18 to 21, while its yearly pee wee rec invitational is set for Jan. 2 to 4.
The association's annual bantam tournament is planned for Jan. 23 to 25, while the CMHA's 2009 midget rec and competitive tournament will hit the ice from Feb. 6 to 8.
CCGHL squads in play
Several games are slated to hit the ice this week in 2008-09 Carleton County Gentlemen's Hockey League play.
Dec. 9: Green Diamond John Deere vs. Atlantic Cat, 9:30 p.m., Hartland; Dec. 10: Kubota vs. WKL River Rats, 9 p.m., Woodstock; Dec. 12: Connell Chrysler Chargers vs Hartland Golf Club Sabres, 10 p.m., Hartland; Dec. 12: NBCC Navigators vs. Florenceville McCain Stars, 9:15 p.m., Florenceville.
WMHA novice event Dec. 30
The Woodstock Minor Hockey Association will its annual novice jamboree at the Carleton Civic Centre on Dec. 30.
Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on their favourite squads at the event.
