The force of rain and floodwaters on the gravel portion of Pike Hill Road created a deep gully making it impossible for vehicles to cross. Heavy rain over the holiday weekend caused havoc in many areas around the region. There were several reports of flooded basements, sinkholes and other damage to roadways.
When flooded out, it's best to head for dryer ground, but, as this little fowl discovered, there was none to be found after the heavy rain.
Some residents in our region spent New Brunswick Day cleaning up after heavy rains left a mess. On Maple Ridge, two washouts meant motorists had to maneuver carefully to travel along Route 605.

The Maple Ridge side of Gunter Brook on Route 605 was one of several areas where travellers had to be cautious. Rain over the holiday weekend made for tricky travelling as many area roads were covered with gravel and other debris.
Damage to this portion of the Pike Hill Road caused several residents to be without access to their normal route of travel. The road was closed with signs posted well in advance of the trouble spot.
Although actually a woods road on the Upper Temperance Vale Road, this looks more like a brook with water rushing the full length. Heavy rain was reported for several days, causing flooded basements and washouts along some area roads. A number of homeowners were scrambling for sump pumps to help alleviate water problems.
The murky waters of Nackawic Stream are up almost to the bottom of the old rail bridge at Pinder Falls in Temperance Vale as the result of heavy rain which caused flooding woes in the area over the holiday weekend.
