Police chase ends in woods

One man was in custody early this week after a failed attempt to flee from police.
A 20-year-old Lower Woodstock male was arrested early Sunday morning following a short pursuit through Woodstock's south-side streets. The male was to appear in Woodstock provincial court Tuesday afternoon for a bail hearing.
The pursuit began around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning when, according to Cpl. Carter Stone of the Woodstock Police Force, police witnessed a vehicle pull out of the Royal Bank parking lot and accelerate to a high speed. With the police vehicle following, the suspect vehicle pulled up St. Gertrude Street, on to Broadway, into and around a business driveway, back on to Broadway and straight through the Houlton Street intersection. Cpl. Stone said the suspect worked the vehicle through a few more short streets before finding himself stuck on Moffatt Street – a dead-end street.
"The driver ended up fleeing the vehicle and ran into the woods," Cpl. Stone said, "where he was apprehended by an officer.
"We are looking at possible charges of impaired driving, prohibited driving and failing to stop for police."
