Municipal residents must have enjoyed the representation they received in the Upper River Valley the past four years as all incumbent candidates were returned to their respective council tables Monday night.

Whether it be by election or acclamation, all five mayors and 28 councillors re-offering in Carleton County and northern York County were successful in their bids. They will be joined to lead their respective municipalities by some new faces, as well as one returning councillor after a one-term absence.

In Carleton County's northern-most municipality, acclaimed Bath Mayor Troy Stone saw voters return his entire council – Michael MacInnis, Joseph Hopkins and Leo Denny.

The Valley's newest town, Florenceville-Bristol, will have many years of experience sitting at its amalgamated table, starting with 22-year Bristol Mayor Darrell Giggie. The veteran mayor is joined by incumbents Karl Curtis and Laurel Bradstreet, as well as newcomer Duska Curtis, in Ward 1, formerly the village of Bristol. In Ward 2, formerly the village of Florenceville, all three incumbents – Susan Bushby, Joyce Trafford and Nancy Whyte-McCauley – will make the inaugural trip on town council.

In the battle of Thomas versus Thomas in Centreville, incumbent Gary Thomas was re-elected over competitor Debbie Thomas. He is also joined by three incumbents around the table, including Kathryn Davenport, Robert Lee and Jason McCormick.

Hartland was the lone Carleton County municipality to have its entire council acclaimed. Acting mayor Wayne Britton will drop the acting portion of his title and will lead a council made up of incumbents David Gormley, Roy Layte, Susan MacLeod and Wayne Rideout, as well as newcomers Patricia Cook and Blaine Lawrence.

Art Slipp, acclaimed as Woodstock's new mayor, will see four familiar faces around the table, as he is rejoined by Catherine Sutherland, Peter Kennedy, James Cluff and Andrew Leech. New to Woodstock council chambers is Charles Depow and Theresa Blackburn.

Meductic has a new mayor in town in Pamela Gavel, who was acclaimed along with her new council – incumbent Donna Davidson, Lee Dickinson and Lance Graham.

Canterbury will be led once again by acclaimed-Mayor Leo Cloutier, as well as all four incumbent councillors – Glendon Luimes, Sandra Marston, Jean English and Amanda Durling.

The lone empty seat in the Valley sits in Millville, where incumbent-Mayor Bev Forbes is joined by incumbents Dean Bell and Henry Blaney in two of three council seats.

The highly contested seats at the Nackawic council table were filled with Deputy Mayor Rowena Simpson stepping up to the mayor's seat, incumbents Jacques Laroche and Brian Grant returning, Karen Howell being re-elected after a one-term absence, and newcomers Paul Legere and Peter Seymour.
