Incumbents swept back the power in the villages of Canterbury and Bath on election night.

On Monday evening, five candidates sought four seats, with only 25 votes separating the leader and last place.

When the dust settled, the four incumbents – Glendon Luimes with 82 votes, Sandra Marston with 80 votes, Jean English with 75 votes and Amanda Durling with 60 votes – retained their seats, edging out candidate Susan Patterson with 57 votes.

In Bath, a low-voter turnout saw the three incumbents return to council. With only 25 per cent of eligible voters casting their votes, Michael MacInnis with 79 votes, Joseph Hopkins with 62 and Leo Denny with 59 retained their seats.

The mayors in both communities were acclaimed for another four years – Leo Cloutier in Canterbury and Troy Stone in Bath.
