Three more properties in disrepair in Campbellton will be addressed and fixed up in the coming weeks with two more scheduled for later this year as council continues its work on cleaning up unsightly premises.

The work comes on the heels of a property cleanup that was done on Water Street earlier this month after it was left vacant for more than decade.

Earlier this week, Campbellton council had the first two readings of a bylaw to fix up three properties where either the building is rundown and a danger to the public, or the property itself is in need of cleaning up.

The full bylaw amendment is to be posted to the city’s website in both English and French. It will remain there for about a month until the third reading takes place, paving the way for the city to do the cleanup work.

The owner of each property, if traceable, will be sent the bill for the work. If it goes unpaid, the city will apply to the province to be reimbursed then place a lien on the property to recuperate the funds.

The three properties that will be dealt with first are on King Street, Ramsay Street and Thompson Road. Once the third reading is held, one of two local companies that bid on the projects will do the needed work.

Luc Enterprises will work on King Street at the cost of $5,500, while Lurette et Fils will do the Ramsay Street one at the cost of $6,500 and the Thompson Road property at the cost of $6,000.

CAO Manon Cloutier said it’s hoped the work will start by Dec. 18.

A bylaw amendment for derelict properties on Aberdeen and Cedar streets will have its first reading next week with the same process to be followed. The contracts for the work on those two properties have not yet been made public.
