Smoke on the highway

Woodstock firefighters battle a small grass fire along the Trans Canada Highway near the Beardsley Road exit early Thursday afternoon. Smoke could been seen as far away as Jacksonville, and black scorch marks stretched about 200 metres running parallel with the east-bound lanes. Fire chief Ricky Nicholson said he believes the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette butt, and the warm weather and wind mad for ideal conditions for the grass to ignite.
