The Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a Jolly Farmer laboratory.

The fire started around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning and was extinguished around 5:15 a.m. by the community's fire brigade and the Woodstock Fire Department.

Jonathan English, Jolly Farmer's safety co-ordinator, said no one was injured. He added it's not yet clear what started the fire.

The lab was part of the Jolly Farmer Products warehouse.

"There is extensive damage in the lab. But fire crews responded quickly to stop it from spreading to the rest of the building," said English.

The cost of damages is not yet known.

He said the lab was used to perform soil-testing and tissue culture. English said the lab hadn't been in use since May 2.

"(The lab) wasn't used constantly, it was used only on a need-basis."

English said Jolly Farmer Products' 300 employees were allowed in the building at 7 a.m., their normal start time.

"We ventilated the building heavily and when we felt it was safe we let the employees in," said English.

Woodstock Fire Chief Rick Nicholson said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze. He couldn't confirm what started the fire or the extent of damages to the building.

The ten-and-a-half-acre greenhouse operation grows plant and vegetable seedlings.
