Three Valley councils acclaimed

While some communities in the Valley anxiously awaited election results Monday evening, others were not feeling the election stress.
In Hartland, residents have known for weeks who would be representing the community at the council table.
Acting mayor Wayne Britton can officially drop the acting portion of his title. The former deputy mayor will now sit at the head of the council table as mayor.
The newly acclaimed mayor said he is looking forward to taking the helm and leading Hartland into the future for the next four years.
"There is a lot of things we have to do," said Britton. "The most public (and pressing) thing is the the new arena. That is definitely a priority. Then there is at least half a dozen other things besides that."
Joining Britton at the table are four familiar faces and two new ones.
Incumbents David Gormley, Susan MacLeod, Wayne Rideout and Roy Layte all return to the table by acclamation. Newcomers Patricia Cook and Blaine Lawrence round out the council.
"It is good to have a full council again because you get six or seven different opinions instead of just four or five," said Britton. "It is a much better way of doing things."
He added he wished more people had offered their names, but he is still happy to be working with people he knows to benefit his community.
Swearing-in ceremonies for the new Hartland council will take place on May 28, Britton said, and then its down to business at the town's first meeting on June 2. He added he looks forward to plotting out Hartland's future in Carleton County.
Hartland wasn't the only community in the Valley with an acclaimed council.
In Meductic, Pamela Gavel took over the reins as mayor from former mayor Nort Hargrove. Joining her on council is incumbent Donna Davidson, along with newcomers Lee Dickinson and Lance Graham.
Millville's Bev Forbes will return once again as mayor. He is joined by Dean Wallace and Henry Blaney, with one seat still open at the council table.
