Owl Book & Gift Shop hosts local author

A local writer stopped traffic in Woodstock on Saturday.
Owl Book & Gift Shop welcomed Sheree Fitch to town, providing the well-known author an opportunity to promote not just her children's books, but a new adult fiction novel entitled Kiss the Joy as it Flies.
Owl co-owner Paula Morris organized the entire day and made arrangements for Queen Street to be closed down for the event.
After introductions by fellow co-owner John Carmont, Mayor Art Slipp welcomed Fitch while holding a copy of her children's book Toes in my Nose. Slipp used to read the book to his now-30-something son when he was little.
Slipp and Fitch are old friends from way back when they used to be neighbours in Fredericton.
Things got off to a fun start with a children's parachute game put on by Joy Hanson of School District 14. Once that was over, Fitch recited some tongue-twisting ditties with help from the kids. The author also read from two of her newest children's books – Kisses Kisses Baby-O and Peak-A-Little Boo.
Signings of her books took place until 2:30 p.m. Fitch met some of her little readers and their parents. They shared with the author the joy their families feel by reading her books.
The author was off to Woodstock Middle School after that for a writing workshop for teens. The workshop highlighted Fitch's teen fiction book Gravesavers.
That evening, Fitch returned to the Owl Book & Gift Shop on Queen Street to promote her adult fiction novel, Kiss the Joy as it Flies – a roller-coaster week in the life of Mercy Beth Fanjoy, who makes a to-do list after finding out she may have cancer.
Several fans of Fitch's work turned out to hear her read passages from the book in the evening sunset. The crowd laughed and got a lump in its collective throat at times throughout the reading.
The Owl owners, Morris and Carmont, had looks of pure bliss on their faces at hearing Fitch read. It was obvious the author's visit brought them as much joy as the local fans.
Asked what she thought of Fitch's reading, Debbie Antworth said, "I thought it was very good."
Carmont's sister Carolyn Carmont was in town visiting her brother and said "I think it's wonderful. It's the highlight of my trip from Ontario."
After the reading, Fitch spent time meeting fans and signing her new book. Gracious as ever, she took time for everyone and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
The book is selling out, but avid readers can still purchase a copy of Fitch's novel at the Owl Book & Gift Shop today.
