Dear Editor,

Let's share some good news! From where – well, it's the Woodstock Middle School (WMS). I know you've heard – BUT I've been there. In the past six months, I've watched two basketball teams (one male and one female), three volleyball teams (two of which were girls) and had the opportunity to help judge a public-speaking contest.

All of these boys and girls were very respectful to coaches, referees, teachers and each other. They worked hard, listened well, played (or spoke) with poise under pressure and handled themselves in a very appropriate manner. They make quick decisions – some are good, others maybe not so good – but they carried on, gained more confidence and improved.

I am proud of these kids, and for these kids – they deserve a positive comment, a pat on the back, maybe a treat (oh, then there's that nutrition thing! Darn).

These young people MUST have had help from caring parents, grandparents, other family members, coaches, teachers and a loving community. It was not accomplished in isolation. To all those caring people, pat yourselves on the back, smile when you look in the mirror – "U DONE GOOD!"

Are these kids perfect? No, but look what you saw in the mirror – were you (are you) mistake-free?

Are there problem kids at WMS? Yes! You know what they say about one bad apple? Well, let's ignore the bad apples for a moment (heaven knows they've done things incorrectly to get way too much attention, time and effort).

Let's celebrate all the "average" kids who go to school to learn, listen, work, show respect to adults and peers, those who bring credit to themselves, their school, their family and their community!

Share the good news of WMS students.

David Daye,

Woodstock

P.S. – To all the adults and students involved in Willi Wonka, another fine example of good kids and good things at WMS, congratulations and be proud of yourselves.
