Habitat Corner
Published Friday October 31st, 2008

Things are really progressing well on the second Carleton County Habitat for Humanity build on the Hawkins Road in Centreville.
The official sod-turning ceremony occurred on Aug. 22. The actual build started shortly thereafter with the preparation of the site for the foundation.
Since that time, many things have taken place and today we have a project that is approximately 50 per cent complete. This includes all of the exterior walls, roof and much of the interior structure in place. Plumbing is approximately 85 per cent complete and other contractors are expected to complete their work within the next couple of weeks.
The goal of the project is to have the family into their new home by Christmas and we are certainly on track to meet that target.
We have had a fantastic outpouring of support for this project. This included many volunteers who gave up their time to cook for the fundraiser breakfast at the Bass Tournament in Woodstock. Thanks all, well done.
We are going to try and thank a few. We do not intend to miss anyone, but if we do, you know who you are and we want you to know that your efforts are much appreciated.
Thanks to MacLeod's General Construction, MacLaughlin Roof Trusses, Simonson's Well Drilling, Dwight Perkins of Carleton Enterprise, H.J. Crabbe & Sons, Thomas Equipment, Wiebe's Hardware, Vinal Bowater Plumbing and Brennan Contractors for all of your contribution to this project. Your desire to make a difference is truly visible by your actions and generous donations.
To those who have brought food, coffee, laughter and fun, thanks so much. Finally, a big thanks to Dan Wade and his colleagues from CFB Gagetown who have added greatly to this project. Dan is so dedicated that on Sunday he even brought his mother, Linda, to screw on strapping to get ready to gyproc. Thanks Linda.
We still have much to do and the labour intensive stuff is just coming into sight. As we stated above, we are only 50 per cent finished. Lots left to do and we need you.
There will be people working at the site most days and certainly on the weekends, so, if you or a group of you want to have a part in this project we encourage you to give us some of your time and we promise to give you an experience that you will certainly enjoy.
