Woodstock firefighters were called to a dumpster fire behind the Bugle-Observer building on Carleton Street last Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Ricky Nicholson said materials were smouldering by the time firefighters arrived on scene.

"Smoke was coming from (the dumpster) when we arrived," he said.

The dumpster was almost full of paper products making it easy for fire to ignite.

Nicholson said the fire was so intense it burned the cover off the dumpster. It was also close to the building.

"There was potential for the building to catch on fire," said Nicholson.

Firefighters doused the flames and wrapped things up in half an hour.

The incident is being investigated to determine the cause.

The fire was the third dumpster fire within a month in the Town of Woodstock.
